About Oakham

Oakham is the county town of Rutland, recently voted as the best rural place in Britain to live. Its historic sites include the 14th century church, the medieval castle and the Buttercross – all a short walk from Spinney Hill. Oakham has excellent primary and secondary schools, including Oakham School, one of the leading independent schools in the country.

Oakham has a large number of excellent boutique shops and good restaurants and there is also a market held in the town twice a week. Oakham has excellent sporting facilities and clubs, including a cricket and a tennis club (both within a few minutes’ walk from Spinney Hill) as well as a rugby and a football club – all of which have excellent junior sections.

Rutland Water is less than 2 miles from Oakham and offers a great range of outdoor activities - including sailing, fishing, walking and cycling. Rutland Water also has a nature reserve, which serves as a breeding site for ospreys.
